An exploration of identity, memory and becoming.
What does it mean to be shaped by a culture – and what happens when we begin to question the stories, expectations and patterns we have inherited?
In this conversation, we explore the Irish psyche through the lens of history, culture, gender, trauma and lived experience. From the social norms that shaped generations before us to the ways these legacies can continue to live in our bodies, relationships and sense of self.
We’ll consider what we carry, what we have inherited, and what we might choose to change.
Bringing together cultural historian Dr. Belinda Vigors and trauma-informed psychotherapist Simon Courtney, we’ll explore the relationship between our collective past and our individual lives, and ask what it might mean to consciously participate in the Ireland that comes next.
This will be a space to look back, understand more deeply, and consider who we are becoming.

About Dr. Belinda Vigors
Author, Social Scientist, and Founder of The Women of Ireland Project
Dr. Belinda Vigors is the author of Threatening Women: A Cultural History of Why Ireland Shamed and Contained Women and the founder of The Women of Ireland Project, an oral and cultural history research initiative exploring the forces that have shaped the lives of women of Ireland.
Her work looks at how Ireland’s past continues to shape our present, especially when it comes to gender roles, social norms and expectations, and the generational patterns many of us carry today. At the heart of her work is a desire to get to the roots of these inherited patterns and to offer practical frameworks and insights that help people better understand the Irish cultural legacies they are carrying and their continued influence in their lives.
